Tech Prophecies: Neural Chapel is a mixed-reality installation that treats machine vision as a contemporary belief system. The work takes the form of a secular chapel built from AI-generated images, VR, digital fabrication, and sculptural hardware. A visitor wears a commercial VR headset modified with a 3D-printed chapel structure that snaps onto the device, transforming the headset into a ritual object. Nearby, a TV or monitor displays the work inside a matching 3D-printed chapel frame, creating a physical threshold between the gallery space and the virtual chapel within.
The project began as an unreleased archive of early generative-AI “prophecies” and has been reconstructed in 2026 as a complete installation. The original images imagined technological futures before the current mainstream saturation of generative AI: smart cities, bionic bodies, networked nature, synthetic organisms, automated labor, and sacred machines. In Neural Chapel, these images return not as predictions to be believed literally, but as artifacts of a machine-assisted unconscious: visual fragments produced through prompt systems, datasets, cultural bias, and human desire.
The chapel format is intentionally paradoxical. It borrows from sacred architecture, but replaces religious iconography with synthetic image-icons, prophecy cards, and immersive machine-generated environments. The audience is invited to approach the work as a ritual interface: a place to contemplate how AI systems now participate in the production of images, symbols, futures, and authority.
Rather than presenting AI as autonomous creativity, the work emphasizes critical technological agency. It asks how humans can use, question, hack, and reshape machine systems without mistaking computation for understanding, automation for judgment, or scale for progress. The visitor does not simply “enter VR”; they enter a sculptural apparatus where consumer hardware, computer vision, speculative theology, and human authorship collide.
Tech Prophecies: Neural Chapel is a hybrid physical–computational installation that combines generative AI, VR, digital fabrication, and architectural sculpture. The system translates contemporary machine learning workflows into a spatial experience that visitors encounter as a secular site of contemplation. The primary inputs consist of human-authored prompts, iterative design decisions, reference imagery, architectural precedents, and a curated archive of AI-generated prophecy images. Rather than generating a final artwork automatically, AI functions as an exploratory design tool within a human-in-the-loop workflow. Generated variations are evaluated, refined, and selectively incorporated through manual curation, compositing, layout design, and 3D modeling.
The virtual component consists of an immersive 360° chapel environment built from AI-assisted image generation, panoramic scene construction, digital compositing, and spatial design. Inside the headset, viewers encounter the Neural Chapel as an image-architecture composed of prophecy cards, synthetic icons, and machine-generated visual scenes. These images are organized not only as visual material, but as a dataset-like devotional system: each card or image functions as a fragment of machine prophecy, classification, and symbolic speculation.
The project intentionally exposes the relationship between AI-assisted design, consumer hardware and computer vision. Machine learning is positioned as one component within a broader human-directed workflow rather than as an autonomous author. The resulting system investigates how computational media increasingly shape experiences once associated with ritual, architecture, prophecy, and spiritual contemplation.

Fabiola Larios (b. 1986) is a Mexican interdisciplinary artist based in Miami and an artist-in-residence at Bakehouse Art Complex. Her work examines surveillance, machine vision, self-representation, technological obsolescence, and the ways algorithmic systems shape identity and visibility. Working across installation, video, AI, machine learning, electronics, e-waste, piñatas, glitter, and bedazzled surveillance cameras, she combines critical approaches to emerging technologies with playful and hyper-feminine material languages. Her work Cuteveillance was selected for the CVPR 2025 AI Art Gallery, she has been part of multiple exhibitions at PAMM, ICA Miami, Superblue, MUNAG, Transfer Gallery, PANKE Gallery and Nguyen Wahed.
